It is with great sadness that Llanrumney Hall Community Trust announces the upcoming closure of The Llanrumney Hall Community Food Pantry, with the final pantry session taking place on Thursday 18th December 2025.
This decision has not been made lightly. Over the past five years, our team and volunteers have worked tirelessly to support local residents and provide affordable food to our community. However, despite our best efforts, The Pantry has become financially unsustainable for our small charity.
When The Pantry first opened, we regularly supported around 95 households each week. Today, that number has fallen to around 25-30, despite a local population of 14,000 residents and circa 4,000 households being eligible for the service. At the same time, our running costs have risen significantly — including food costs, utilities, and operational expenses — resulting in a considerable annual loss that the charity can no longer sustain. Donations received were also only ever exclusively used for the food provision and not to offset the utility/operational costs. Additionally, changes such as reduced supermarket donations and smaller allocations from our primary food subscription provider have made it increasingly difficult for us to continue operating at the level our community deserves.
We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved over the last five years. In that time, an amazing 14,000 affordable food shops have been provided to local residents, easing financial pressure for many households. None of this would have been possible without our dedicated volunteers, whose compassion and commitment have made a real difference to many lives. Their loyalty to the facility and its users has been remarkable from the day we opened our doors and we know our members have grown incredibly fond and close to each volunteer that works here.
We are also deeply grateful to every resident who has supported or used The Pantry during its operation. Every member that shopped with us, helped keep our doors open that bit longer, which in turn enabled more households to benefit from this provision. A special thank you also goes to each and every one of you that has donated and contributed to The Pantry since day one. The cash and food donations have not just helped but have in fact been a lifeline to us as a charity. These donations have come from churches, individuals, local businesses, schools, and even those who are no longer with us leaving us legacy donations as part of their estate. Your kindness and generosity is appreciated by every member who has ever used The Pantry.
We understand this closure will be disappointing for many of our members and volunteers who rely on The Pantry, and we share that sadness deeply. While this chapter is coming to a close, Llanrumney Hall Community Trust remains committed to supporting the local community.
Thank you for your understanding and for being part of this amazing journey with us.
