Viral Llanrumney Nans Reunited with Wrestler at Llanrumney Hall for BBC Feature

The BBC came to Llanrumney Hall to film a story that has been getting attention across the UK, bringing together a group of Llanrumney nans and a professional wrestler in a moment that shows how the most unexpected situations can turn into something special.

The four women, Lynn Crawford, 71, Susie Matthews, 73, Rose Sulley, 74, and Christine Goodwin, 80, have been close friends for more than 40 years. Their trip to Las Vegas was not only a holiday but also a meaningful journey, as they travelled to scatter the ashes of Rose’s late husband, Pete.

The story began during their journey, when a mix up with seating led to them being placed next to a professional wrestler known as Man Like DeReiss, who was travelling to Las Vegas for WrestleMania week. What started as a simple conversation on the plane quickly turned into an invitation to one of his shows, which the group decided to go along to. DeReiss later said he was very surprised that the nans actually turned up.

After the show, a photo of them together was shared online, with DeReiss asking people to help find the nans again. The post quickly gained attention, reaching over 1.1 million views on Twitter and spreading widely across social media. The story struck a chord with many, and before long, the Llanrumney nans had gone viral.

Following the response online, the BBC arranged to bring everyone back together. Llanrumney Hall was chosen as the setting for the reunion, bringing the story back to where the women are from. Filming took place for BBC Breakfast’s Rise and Shine segment, which focuses on uplifting stories from around the country.

The day itself was filled with conversation, laughter and a real sense of familiarity between everyone involved. The group spent time together at the Hall, with the nans being interviewed inside Beans to Coffee, before heading out to show DeReiss around Cardiff for the rest of the day.

The feature has since been broadcast on BBC Breakfast on the 5/5/2026 , sharing a story that started with a chance meeting and went on to capture attention far beyond Cardiff.
